One of the main highlight of any car show are the masterfully tuned cars with their sleek bodykits that you do not get to see often on the streets. Yet with games such as Need For Speed and movies such as the every popular Fast and Furious series, even in a country where the rules on car modifications are very strict, there is still quite a sizable fan base for such cars. The Tokyo Auto Saloon Singapore 2013 is no different and our very own resident car lover Alex Tan shares with us 10 of these cars that caught his attention.
1. RK DESIGN Corvette ZR1
This is an amazing car that’s currently not available in Singapore which adds to its appeal. With a engine capacity of 6200cc and 638 horse power, This is one slick machine will get you to places real fast.
2. SPOON SPORTS Honda NSX-R GT Racing
Spoon Sports are well known to be Honda specialist that can turn everyday Honda models into a powerful pocket rocket on the track. Words fail me as I set my eyes on the legend (NSX-R) of Honda with the iconic paintwork of another legend (Spoon Sports) tuner. I feel as though I have been blessed upon just by looking at this beautiful work of art.
3. RE AMEMIYA Mazda RX-7 (FD3S)
Founded by Ama-san, the living legend in the tuning world, these master tuners have been around for 35 years now. This one-off hand-made custom body kit was the grand winner at the auto-styling competition at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2012 and all I can say is WOW!.
4. ZESTY RACING Mazda RX-7 (FD3S)
With a clean but menacing looks, this RX-7 has gone through intensive modification for racing on the track, yet still keeping within the regulations to be street legal in Japan. With 425bhp under the hood, this rotary rocket will give any trackies a wide grin on the face while racing on the track.
5. KRC Modified Mazda RX-7 (FD3S)
A car design by a design firm (K.R.C Japan) specializing in jewellery and apparel? How? Err.. Why? Whatever… Jokes aside, the design is special in its own way. With the sharp edgy rear end to the weird nose at the front, I will say this is one car that definitely stand outs. Although to be honest, it still looks a bit funny to me.
6. AMUSE Honda S2000 GT1
Amuse is one of the most respected tuning house in Japan and they are well-known for the wide-bodied Honda S2000 GT1 which is featured in Grand Turismo. The fared-out fender, the dry-carbon roof, the widen bumper, the large canards and the OMG huge GT Wing. Imagine the balance it will give when speeding down the straight with its 317bhp F20C Vtec engine before braking to go for the turn. Only one word describes it… Awesome!
7. MUGEN Honda Civic Mugen RR Advanced Concept
This is has got to be one of the longest name I have typed so far for a car name. Jokes aside, this is seriously one light car With more then 90% of its body being replace with Carbon Fiber. The weight is then further reduced again by replacing the windscreen and windows with acrylic. All this carbon fiber on one car… too bad there is only 1 of this in the world which makes it even more noteworthy.
8. DAMD LFT-8
There are many FT-86s all over the place so you might ask what makes this particular FT-86 stand out? It’s not just adding a L in-front of the FT-86 but it is the inspiration taken from the Lexus LFA. The body kit assumes the looks of the LFA, even adding the triangle exhaust found on it, making it the most unique 86s in the market. But what really caught my attention was the FA20 Turbo that was in the hood.
9. VEILSIDE 4509GTR (Toyota Supra JZA80)
VeilSide is a household name for many custom car enthusiasts. Well known thanks to the movie “Fast and Furious” for the Fortune model RX7 which was the car Han was driving. Although I got to admit it took me a while before I realised what model the car was while standing in front of it. Guess I better go re-watch Fast and Furious since the next one is coming out soon.
10. TOP FUEL Honda S2000 Type RR
Top Fuel is a famous tuner that focuses primarily on Honda cars. Although they are mostly recognized for their excellent track record in the time-attack, they also do dress-up cars, car audio and even the manufacturing of parts under their Zero-1000 brand. This particular car is fitted with a HKS-GT3540 turbine that is rated for 712bhp with 74.5kgm of torque. And people wonder why they have such an excellent track record when it comes to time-attack.
